Roland Gray, III

Roland (Rob) Gray has been in legal practice for nearly 40 years, joining Rubin and Rudman in 2000, where he now serves as Chair of the Trust Department. His practice includes Trusts and Income and Estate Tax Planning; Medicaid, Medicare and Transitional Assistance Planning; and Professional Trustee Law, but this hardly begins to encompass the range and depth of his advocacy on behalf of clients.

The 9th unbroken generation of lawyers and trustees in the family, Rob's career was never preordained. "I didn't know I was going to like the law until I got into it. It's been—and continues to be—greatly satisfying to provide education and assistance that positively influences people's lives both economically and personally. I'm optimistic enough to believe that if you give people good information, you equip them to make good lifetime decisions, financially and around family matters."

"I remember how pleased I was when one of my Dad's best friends (and his law school classmate) asked me to take on my first job acting as a fiduciary or guardian.  Now, 40 years later, some of those early clients are still with me, as are their children and grandchildren."

Preserving Wealth/Protecting Families
Within his own extended family and elsewhere, Rob had witnessed the consequences that a lack of financial planning could have on generations of individuals. This led him to specialize in estate, income and gift tax planning for families, as well as acting as a professional trustee and supervisor of investment managers of trust funds.  Today, Rob oversees approximately 350 trusts with a combined market value in excess of $150 million.

To help prevent clients from losing their way through such challenges as tax difficulties, addiction, mental illness, disability, or matters of the heart, Rob calls upon an extensive network of multidisciplinary professionals.  Acting as a knowledgeable gatekeeper, Rob makes these discreet and expert resources available to caretakers, clients, and their families—often providing respectful, individualized counsel throughout the life-cycle.

Rob Gray also maintains a strong commitment to accessibility, reserving a portion of each week to seeing first-time clients, providing assessments to ensure that they receive the kind of legal attention appropriate to their needs.

Bringing the same level of intensity to his extracurricular activities, Rob describes himself as a congenial squash and tennis partner, fearless chef, hiker, avid gardener, and voracious reader with a special affection for authors P.D. James, Patrick O'Brien, Tony Hillerman, books on Zen practice, and anything to do with the Southwest and American History.
