Environmental Law Partner
Rubin and Rudman LLP, a prominent mid-size firm based in Boston and one of the largest firms in Massachusetts, is seeking a lateral partner to join our Environmental and Land Use practice. Our environmental attorneys are industry leaders with significant experience navigating the complicated interrelationship of local, state, and federal environmental and land use law. The group’s attorneys are routinely named among the best in rankings, and our bench includes a former co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Environmental Litigation Committee and a current chair of the Real Estate Bar Association’s New Lawyer Section.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years’ experience with deep expertise in all aspects of environmental law matters for real estate owners and developers. They will have their own book of business, but also be willing to assist other attorneys at the firm with environmental matters. Additionally, they will be well-versed in handling environmental disputes in all phases of litigation and working with clients to develop strategies to avoid disputes—including through structuring comprehensive compliance and auditing programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on real estate development issues such as brownfields redevelopment, land use, residential and commercial real estate transactions, subdivision, zoning control, and comprehensive permitting.
- Advise clients in regulated industries on federal, state, and local environmental laws, including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, and Massachusetts-specific laws (e.g., c.21E, c.91, c.93A, and c.176D).
- Collaborate with the firm’s corporate and real estate groups on deals and transactions with significant environmental components, ensuring compliance and risk management in these areas.
- Work closely with corporate and real estate attorneys to provide legal guidance on transactions involving environmental considerations.
Requirements:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the Massachusetts Bar.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental law, with experience in real estate and corporate transactions.
- Proven track record in litigation and permitting, including expertise with federal, state, and local environmental and land use regulations.
- Extensive experience representing project proponents, buyers, sellers, and lenders in real estate transactions involving brownfields and hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse client base, including corporations,
- Portable book of business with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships in regulated industries.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
