Served as lead trial counsel in Rivella v. Taunton Housing Authority, Brockton Superior Court, Civil Action No.: 14-00094-A, obtaining a full defense verdict on behalf of a public housing authority. The case was tried in both Plymouth Superior Court and Middlesex Superior Court. Laura led the defense through extensive pretrial litigation and a multi-day jury trial, successfully defending against claims of negligence and premises liability.

Secured summary judgment in favor of a general contractor in a coverage dispute involving its subcontractor’s insurer. The subcontractor’s policy excluded coverage for injuries to employees, which impacted indemnity claims stemming from a workplace incident. Laura successfully argued that her client was an intended third-party beneficiary of the subcontractor’s insurance policy, resulting in a judgment reimbursing the client’s insurer for the full settlement paid to the plaintiff and recovery of all associated defense costs.

Obtained summary judgment in a negligence action where the plaintiff alleged liability based on the conduct of the defendant’s employee at a training event. Laura demonstrated that the employee was participating solely in a volunteer capacity for the purpose of continuing education and not acting within the scope of employment. She further argued that the employer had no legal duty of care with respect to the safety or execution of the event, resulting in dismissal of all claims.

Achieved multiple favorable rulings for clients in proceedings before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), successfully defending against claims involving alleged employment discrimination and housing violations. Laura’s advocacy before the Commission has consistently helped clients resolve sensitive matters efficiently and with minimal business disruption.
