In her article, Jennifer explores the growing national trend of medical aid in dying legislation, often referred to as “right to die” laws, which allow qualified terminally ill adults to seek medical aid to end their suffering. She discusses recently enacted laws in New York and Illinois, both set to take effect in 2026, as well as the current pending legislation in Massachusetts. The article also highlights the procedural safeguards included in these laws, such as waiting periods, mental health evaluations, witness requirements, and physician oversight.
