Elder Law Associate

We are seeking an associate with two to four years of experience to join our growing Elder Law group. Our team guides clients through some of the most personal aspects of life—health, family, aging, and financial security. Families facing long-term care decisions and concerns about preserving assets turn to us for strategic, individualized support. We guide clients through Medicaid planning, guardianships, incapacity planning, probate matters, special-needs planning, and sophisticated asset-protection strategies.

This is an opportunity to build a meaningful practice in a field where precision and compassion matter. Our team pairs deep technical knowledge with empathy and clear communication to guide clients through complex processes and help them make informed decisions that protect their dignity, independence, and assets.

As an associate in this group, you’ll work closely with partners and associates in Elder Law, Trusts & Estates, and Fiduciary Litigation. The ideal candidate is thoughtful, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with clients, families, and their broader advisory teams, including financial planners, life care managers, and accountants.

Responsibilities
  • Work with partners to advise individuals and families on long-term care planning and Medicaid/MassHealth eligibility, including spend-down strategies, gifting, and use of irrevocable trusts.
  • Prepare and advise trustees on administering supplemental needs (special needs) trusts and counsel on benefit preservation strategies.
  • Draft and review wills, trusts, health care proxies, durable powers of attorney, advance directives, and related incapacity planning documents.
  • Assist with guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, including drafting pleadings and participating in Probate and Family Court matters.
  • Prepare and file MassHealth applications and appeals and interact with administrative agencies as needed.
  • Advise fiduciaries, caregivers, and families on issues arising from incapacity, disability, or complex family dynamics.
  • Collaborate with clients’ broader advisory teams, including financial planners, care managers, and accountants.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on elder law, public benefits, and trust-related issues.
  • Participate in client meetings and maintain regular communication with sensitivity and professionalism.

Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • 2–4 years of experience in elder law, or in a closely related area such as trusts and estates, with a demonstrated interest in concentrating on elder law matters.
  • Admission and good standing with the Massachusetts Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly).
  • Experience with Medicaid/MassHealth planning, guardianships, and incapacity planning preferred.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and compassionately.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
